Cooper’s Shame Over Soccer Blunder

DOMINIC COOPER was left red-faced when he tried to fulfil his dream of becoming a star soccer player – he fluffed his chance in front of thousands of fans.

The Mamma Mia! star was taking part in Britain’s Soccer Aid event, which raises money for Unicef, and was relishing the opportunity to finally play the sport inside a packed stadium.

He was brought on as a substitute midway through the game in Manchester, England in June (10) – but humiliated himself in front of the 70,000-strong crowd by bungling his big moment.

He tells Empire magazine, “It was a painful experience. The ball was miles up in the air and everything went silent. It was like a film, and I went to volley it… and it hit my kneecap. It was pathetic. It never works like that in the films.”

Dominic Cooper’s Musical Woe

August 31st, 2010

Dominic Cooper admits he can’t sing, despite appearing in 2008 musical movie ‘Mamma Mia!’ alongside Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried.

Dominic Cooper can’t sing.

The British actor – who starred as the hunky Sky in 2008 musical movie ‘Mamma Mia!’ – always wanted to be a musician but had trouble when he tried to start bands as a youth because he was “dreadful”, though he blames his upbringing.

He said: “I was in bands. I was the lead singer. They were dreadful. I couldn’t sing. They were all not very good.

“There was a terrible sort of mixture of one brother who is into kind of bad 80s, Nick Kershaw and Duran Duran and a much older brother who is into soul and my mother who is into classical music… it was an amalgamation of very different music styles which came out as something quite appalling.”

However, Dominic admits he did discover a passion for the drums while filming the role of rocker Ben in romantic comedy ‘Tamara Drewe’ – although it was short-lived.

He joked to BANG Showbiz: “I had some lessons and got really into it and loved it and then went completely over the top and purchased a drum kit, and then I got letters from the local council asking me to leave the premises immediately.

“Of course as soon as the film wrapped, the drums went into a box and I’ve never seen them again.”

Awww, Dominic Cooper says going home makes him feel normal

August 29th, 2010

Tamara Drewe star Dominic Cooper says he likes visiting home.

Going home makes Dominic Cooper feel settled according to the gorgeous star.

Star stud Dominic Cooper admits he likes to return to the south London district of Greenwich – where he grew up – because it helps him get away from the unsettling feeling he can have as an actor.

The hunk, who has starred in such films as box office hit Mamma Mia, said: “When you spend so much time away from home and doing things like this and talking about yourself too much it can be very painful. But actually going home among people who know you extremely well and you can’t be anything other than yourself, it’s a relief, really. It gives you a sense of who you are again. It’s an existence of feeling very unsettled.”

The 32-year-old says he thinks his friends keep him grounded because he has hung out with the same people since he was young.

He said: “If you are lucky enough to have a group of friends and family somewhere – all my friends I’ve known since I was at school when I was four or five – it’s perfect.

Cooper planned video game training

June 3rd, 2010

Mamma Mia! hunk Dominic Cooper planned to get into shape for a major charity football match by playing video games, his flatmate James Corden has revealed.

Film hunk Cooper – who also starred in The History Boys – is due to play with former legends such as Alan Shearer, Teddy Sheringham and Zinedine Zidane for the Soccer Aid match on Sunday.

But Corden – who is the assistant manager of the pro-celeb England team – said that Cooper had not registered the magnitude of the occasion and thought he could prepare by playing a computer game.

Speaking at a training session, Corden said: “Dom did say last week, and I don’t think he’d taken on that Old Trafford would be full or that it would be live on telly, and he went ‘Jim we better play some Fifa’.

“And I went ‘I don’t think that’s going to be the same. It almost certainly will be different to that because you’ll be playing against some of the greatest players that ever lived’,” the Gavin And Stacey star added.

Dominic Cooper – Cooper Dreads Living Without Corden

Cooper Dreads Living Without Corden

British actor DOMINIC COOPER is putting off moving out of the home he shares with best pal JAMES CORDEN, because he’ll miss the funnyman when he lives on his own.

The Mamma Mia! star has spent several years cohabiting with Corden, since the pair became close after landing roles in the original production of Alan Bennett’s hit play The History Boys in 2004.

Cooper, who has reportedly split from girlfriend Amanda Seyfried, has now purchased his own house on the same street as Corden’s pad in London.

But he has so far refused to move into his new home – fearing he’ll be too lonely without his friend.

He says, “He (Corden) used to live in my place. Now I’ve moved into his place and I think he is getting a bit sick of me. If he goes out and works all the time I do all the menial chores. I do the washing. Today I said, ‘Darling, do you want your clothes in the dryer?’ It’s ridiculous.

“I’d miss him (if I moved out) massively because he is such a great friend. He always comes and sits on a chair at the end of my bed in the morning for a talk”.
