This Highly Coveted BMW ‘Batmobile’ Would Make the Caped Crusader Green With Envy

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, long before BMW became a mass-luxury brand name, the marque was known for building sporting cars that combined Bavarian frugality, solid German engineering and—if one squints one’s eyes and imagines—sober, attractive style. The automaker had shed its reputation for lavish antiquated barges like the model 502 “Baroque Angel” and the money-losing 507 sports car, and embarked on a new mission.

Pivotal to the change in direction was the 1600 and 2002 series (an altogether longer and most interesting story). But BMW customers had a taste for sporting luxury that would never be sated by the boxy ’02 and, by the way, BMW had a perfectly delightful inline-six engine with which to power a more substantial car. The most beautiful by far was the 3.0 series E9, which began as a 2.8-liter version with the 1968 2800 CS. The later 3.0 CS, introduced

Goodwood Road & Racing / YouTube

The Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 is still a year away from reaching its 100 customers, but Murray’s team has consistently shared videos of its development. That means we’ve already heard the naturally aspirated V-12 rev up to 12,100 rpm, seen a test mule in action, and watched Murray himself take his first drive in the car with a hard limit of 3,000 rpm. As exciting as all of that was, none of it compares to footage of the car roaring around an actual racing track. The company understood this, so they sent the car to this year’s annual Goodwood Member’s Meeting for a public debut.

An authorized pre-owned or CPO car has been inspected to fulfill minimum quality standards and usually consists of some kind of warranty. While sellers and third parties certify cars, the gold standard is an automaker-certified vehicle that provides a manufacturing facility-backed warranty, often extending the unique protection. Autos should be in glorious condition and have low miles and put on to be certified, which is why off-lease autos feed many CPO packages.

Anthony Alfredo OK after his car burst into flames at Texas

Thankfully, NASCAR driver Anthony Alfredo is OK after he wrecked at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, and his car subsequently burst into flames on the track.

With 30 of 334 laps to go in the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 — the first Cup Series playoff race in the Round of 8, the final round before the final Championship 4 race — Kyle Busch appeared to make contact with the back of Chris Buescher’s car, sending the No. 17 Ford to the inside of the track.

Buescher regained control of his car, but it looked like the incident set off a chain reaction, which led to Alfredo in the No. 38 Ford to spin out.

Alfredo’s car slid up the track and slammed into the outside wall, backside first. After the crash, Alfredo’s car rolled down to the inside of the track and stopped, and it seemed like the excitement
