Attendees at Edge Products’ Weekend on the Edge 2020 event in Ogden, Utah, witnessed one of the gnarliest dyno catastrophes in recent history. In its quest to reach a mind-boggling 3,000 hp on the dyno, the truck affectionately known as Master Shredder succumbed to too much NOS (and to Satan) and literally flung its Cummins diesel engine out as a fiery meteor. While it was game-over for the truck, the driver, co-driver, and bystanders escaped with no major injuries.

Master Shredder, Industrial Injection Diesel Performance’s heavily-modified 6.7-liter Cummins Dodge diesel race truck piloted by Shawn Baca and Kody Pulliam, had just completed a solid 2,920-hp dyno pull (apparently the highest horsepower on a chassis dyno). Even more impressive? The truck’s 4,026 lb-ft of torque. In order to eke out an extra 80 hp to reach the magic 3,000 horses, the team reportedly swapped the nitrous jets for the truck’s third pull, resulting in the epic dyno-tastrophy seen below.

Shawn Baca commented on Facebook about the incident: “Well truth be told I don’t really know what to say about this other than thank God me and Kody Pulliam walked away from this and nobody was seriously injured. Aside from burns and bruises from bailing out[,] we are good. Can’t thank everyone enough for the blessings and support through this. Living up to its name. THIS IS THE MASTER SHREDDER! 2,920 horsepower and over 4,000 torque is the number it made prior to this run. The push for 3K ended in this. Me and this truck have been through hell and back literally[.] I love and live for this sport or whatever you want to call this madness. Nobody but God himself can take that away from me. Until that day comes I will keep pushing it to the limits. Very grateful nobody was seriously injured; trucks and parts can be replaced. #blessedbeyondmeasure #mastershredder #fullsend”

The internet is replete with footage of the catastrophic diesel engine explosion that’s so ferocious that
YouTube has censored it as violent/graphic content. (Our screenshots came from
Its Loud Just Cause’s slow-motion rendition.) The images capture the magnitude of the Cummins grenade and appeal to the sad-but-true human nature that craves destruction and carnage. Sadly, the dyno fail has certainly gained more internet fame than a successful 3,000hp dyno pull ever would have.
That said, we are confident that Industrial Injection will be back to attack the 3,000 hp mark again in no time.
