The Austin Police Department (APD) is warning of a new theft and criminal offense trend termed “jugging” in which suspects comply with victims immediately after they go away a bank or ATM.
“There, they are approached, threatened with violence, or assaulted even though the suspect needs the dollars or aggressively usually takes the cash bag,” APD explained in a Friday statement posted to Facebook. “This criminal offense occurs when cash luggage are obvious as the victim leaves the lender or ATM.”
Over the past calendar year, APD has counted at the very least 62 juggings at Lender of America, Wells Fargo and Chase lender locations.
