Opel sales rally back up 254.5% year-on-year in May

New car sales in Luxembourg drop -12.4% year-on-year in May to 3,534 units, marking a third consecutive double-digit market fall. Year-to-date volumes are now down -12.5% to 18,222 sales. Both Volkswagen (-16.8%) and Audi (-27.2%) fall faster than the market but gain three spots on April to end the month at #1 and #2 respectively. If Volkswagen simply returns to the ranking it holds YTD, it’s a great push by Audi which is #4 so far this year. Mercedes (+2.9%) defies the negative environment but stays at #3 above a struggling BMW (-30.7%). Peugeot (+10.4%) loses the top spot it held last month but sports a very solid year-on-year uptick. Not as great though as Fiat (+69.8%) and Opel (+254.5%), the latter starting off a very low base and almost equalling its YTD share at 5.5% vs. 5.3%. Citroen (-2.2%) and Hyundai (-7.4%) beat the market unlike Skoda (-55.2%) in freefall. Outside the Top 10, notice Kia (+29.7%), Dacia (+88.9%), Cupra (+100%), Alfa Romeo (+25.8%), Honda (+142.9%) and Ferrari (+275%) all in great shape.
