15-y-o motorcyclists among 14 killed in motor vehicle crashes in past week -RSU

A 15-year-old boy who was driving a motorcycle is among the 14 people who died as a result of motor vehicle collisions during a carnage-filled week from Saturday, May 7 to Friday, May 13.

The latest fatalities have pushed the overall death toll from traffic crashes since the start of the year to 167. They are contained in the most recent statistics released on Friday by the Road Safety Unit (RSU), which is located in the Ministry of Transport and Mining.

The male child is among four motorcyclists killed during the period. The others include four passengers of private motor cars; two drivers of private motor cars; and four pedestrians. There were three females and eleven males among the victims.

Meanwhile, the RSU has informed that the 167 fatalities to date resulted from 148 fatal crashes.

Ghana Highway Authority vehicle snatched at gunpoint in Tamale

A pickup vehicle belonging to the Ghana Highway Authority has been snatched at gunpoint around Jisonayili in the Northern Regional capital of Tamale.

Information JoyNews has gathered indicates that the two occupants of the vehicle where driving when suddenly they saw a rider in front of them fall off his motor bike.

The source added that the two stopped to enable the person rise up only for someone hit the window of the vehicle breaking the glass.

They added that the person pointed a gun at them and ordered them to step out of the vehicle.

The vehicle was then taken from them and immediately the number plates removed before they drove off including the one who had earlier fallen before them.

The Northern Regional Police Command said it has received a complaint and investigations have commenced.
